ON THE ROUTE

- Border station visit possible, but no way to visit meet the Russians this time. Raja-jooseppi near Saariselkä is not far, some interesting minor roads lead there. Still, it means some 100 km extra.

- SIIDA, the Sámi museum in Inari teels everything about the Arctic areas and the Lapp culture. Interesting exhibitions both indoors and outdoors. Recommended!

or Saariselkä-Angeli- Kautokeino-Hetta (Northern route via Norway) 430 km

- If you want to eat even more kilometres, you can take the smaller path west of "Inari" to "Angeli" and then up to Karigasniemi following the Norwegian border line and river Inarinjoki. This is real Sami area where the majority speaks their own language. Could be interesting, but probabaly slow. There is also a road on the Norwegian side, perhaps crossing is possible over the river (on a ice road).

- In Norway they have their own currency (Norwegian krona) and it is not guaranteed that they will accept Euros. Better fill up in Finland. Generally, Norway is quite expensive.

- HETTA / HEATTHA sights ("Enontekiö" is the name of the larger area): Pallas-Ounastunturi National Park, Nature Centre "Skierri" with multimedia shown

ACCOMMODATION AT:
"Hetan Majatalo". The traditional base camp of Raid Laponie. During the years the place have grown and business developed. The latest change concerns a lisence for alcoholic beverages all over the house so this somewhat limits the drinking of own beer etc. in public areas. Stupid Scandinavian regulations, please try to understand.

Rooms in different categories available, prices 18-62 eur per person. The lower prices are for 6-8 person rooms on the old house and so on. Breakfast, bedding and sauna is included. You can choose and we can discuss this in Saariselkä.

Meals available, we could make a reservation for a nice supper the evening we arrive. Look for the signs at the village center. There is a small hill to climb on the Northern side of the main road.
