Day 6 ... Fri 13.7. Nurmes - 2CV Blues, Vuolijoki 160/200/300 km

Nurmes-Vuolijoki would be just160 km shortest way. We suggest to take the longer, but more interesting route crossing Lake Oulunjärvi. This will be approximately 200 km. If you want to include a visit to the Swamp Soccer World Championships (see below), you need to do about 100 km more, but there is no hurry as 2CV Blues meeting doesn't really get started before the late evening.

On our way North, we can visit "Vuokatti" (near Sotkamo), a place where some winter sports are being practised even in summertime. You can see some SNOW indoors at ”Ski Tunnel” and "Snowboard Tube" for example. You can also drive down the slope with special "slope cars". Also you can drive on the top of "Mount Vuokatti" which gives a nice view over the surroundings.

The larger town of Kajaani is of course good for shopping and sightseeing. You could make a visit to "Paltaniemi" which is an idyllic village with a church known of special paintings and a museum road following the Southern shores of the lake.

The sandy Island of Manamansalo on Lake Oulunjärvi is quite special and the route includes a short free ferry crossing, too. If the weather is nice, try one of its nice beaches (in the South).

Yes, there is another interesting international event taking place simultaneously as we are in this area. It is the "Swamp soccer world championships" South of Hyrynsalmi 12.-15.7.2007. We have been in touch with the organizers and they have welcomed us. In the winter they hold Snow Soccer Championships at the same place. See the exact location of the Swamp soccer event from their website or we will show it to you on your map.

Another route possibility is the Eastern one via Kuhmo where you can for example visit their Wildlife centre "Petola". They also have the "Kalevala Spirit House" for those interested in Finnish traditions and sagas. There are also museums about the fights of second world war between Finns and the Russians.

Finally we'll arrive at 2CV Blues Meeting,Ojanperä farm, Vuolijoki. This meeting is usually arranged every two years, but the 2CV Club of Kajaani decided to arrange it also 2007, especially for Raid Mosquito and international friends of 2CV. See Closer map of the location on Day7 page.

We will stay at the meeting until Sunday. Meals and breakfast should be available.
